Does my healthy pet need baseline bloodwork?
Yes. Baseline bloodwork for healthy pets establishes normal reference ranges specific to your individual animal. This makes it possible to detect subtle but meaningful changes in future tests, changes that might fall within the broad "normal" range for the average pet but represent a significant shift for yours. We recommend baseline panels starting in young adulthood and annually for seniors.
What does a urinalysis show in dogs and cats?
A urinalysis evaluates urine concentration, pH, protein levels, glucose, blood cells, bacteria, and crystal content. It can detect urinary tract infections, kidney disease, diabetes, bladder stones, and other conditions. It is a standard part of senior wellness screening and is often run alongside bloodwork when pets show signs of increased thirst, frequent urination, or urinary accidents.
When should I get X-rays for my dog?
Veterinary radiography (digital X-rays) is recommended when a pet shows signs of pain on movement, limping without a clear cause, difficulty breathing, suspected foreign body ingestion, abdominal distension, or prior to any orthopedic surgery. X-rays are also used to monitor conditions like arthritis over time. Jordan Bay has digital X-ray capability in-house for fast, high-quality imaging.
